IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors

Enables senior leaders to understand their health and safety responsibilities and the responsibilities of others. IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors is an internationally recognised qualification from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

• Exploring the moral imperatives guiding health and safety practices and the legal responsibilities of executives and directors.
• Looking at the financial ramifications of inadequate health and safety management through case studies.

This includes identifying workplace hazards, assessing risks, establishing clear policies and procedures, implementing effective communication channels, and setting measurable objectives for health and safety improvement.

3. Do

• Focusing on the implementation phase.
• How to allocate resources and responsibilities for health and safety, provide adequate training and competency development for employees, ensure compliance with regulations, establish emergency response procedures, and implement effective control measures to mitigate risk.

4. Check

• How to establish systems for monitoring and measuring health and safety performance. This includes conducting regular inspections and audits, reviewing incident data, evaluating the effectiveness of control measures, and ensuring legal compliance through assessments and reviews.

5. Act

• Exploring ways to foster a culture of continuous improvement in health and safety.
• How to encourage employee involvement, review and update policies based on lessons learned, implement corrective actions, and promote a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.

6. Final Review

• An opportunity to reflect on personal and organisational progress in health and safety management.
• Participants will assess their confidence levels, identify areas for further development, establish plans for ongoing professional development, and review key insights gained from the course.

This course takes approximately 6 hours to complete in the participant’s own time.

Please familiarise yourself with the course instructions below:

1. An internet/WIFI connection is required – broadband wired or wireless. A 4G or 5G data signal is NOT suitable as signal coverage can drop and affect the recording of your course completion. We would also recommend you complete this course on a PC or laptop as there can be compatibility issues with some older models of smartphones.
2. Should you launch the course, get distracted and return to it sometime later, please ensure you exit, log out and back in again and relaunch it. We advise this in case the system timed out while you stepped away, which would result in the system not recording your course completion.
3. Please ensure you click all areas of the course when prompted to do so. The continue button to progress through to the next stage will only then become active.

At the end of the course learners must pass the IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors multiple-choice assessment which includes hazard spotting exercises. On successful completion of the course participants will receive an IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors.

At the end of IOSH Safety for Executives there is a personal commitment statement which gives participants an opportunity to reflect on personal and organisational progress in health and safety management. This will be graded as a pass or fail depending on the information submitted. Participants will be given feedback if they fail so they can amend their statement in order to pass.

Certification

On successful completion of the course participants will receive an IOSH Safety for Executives and Directors Certificate.

Appeals

All participants have the right to appeal their result and all appeals will be dealt with in accordance with the CPL Institute appeals procedure.

Certificate Timelines

Please note that depending on when assessments have been submitted, corrected and internally verified it may be a month or two before learners will receive their IOSH certificate.
