PHECC First Aid Response (FAR) Training Course – Certified Workplace First Aid

Be prepared for emergencies with certified PHECC First Aid Response training. This nationally recognised course gives you the knowledge and hands-on skills to act fast during medical emergencies, including cardiac incidents. Suitable for individuals and workplaces, this course meets all legal first aid training standards in Ireland.

What You’ll Learn

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Respond to life-threatening and non-life-threatening medical emergencies
  • Perform CPR and use an AED (defibrillator)
  • Recognise and treat common injuries and illnesses (burns, bleeding, seizures, etc.)
  • Call for emergency medical services and manage the scene until help arrives
  • Communicate with patients and emergency services using PHECC CPGs

Course Details

  • Duration: 3 days (minimum 18 contact hours)
  • Format: In-person or online/in-person (1 day online, 2 days in-person)
  • Trainer to Learner Ratio: Max 1:8 for practical sessions
  • Assessment: Continuous skills evaluation, practical assessments, and a 20-question multiple-choice exam
  • Certification: PHECC First Aid Response Certificate (valid for 2 years)

Zoom Requirements (for online component where applicable)

  • Stable internet connection
  • Microphone and speakers (built-in or external)
  • Webcam for participation

Legal Compliance for Employers

In accordance with Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Regulations 2007, employers must:

  • Provide accessible first aid equipment and trained responders
  • Ensure adequate numbers of trained first aiders based on workplace risk
  • Include first aid arrangements in the safety statement

The Role of a First Aid Responder

A certified First Aid Responder is trained to:

  • Manage medical incidents until emergency medical services arrive
  • React effectively in high-pressure situations
  • Apply PHECC guidelines for assessment, treatment, and communication
  • Continue professional development through refresher training

Recertification Requirements

PHECC FAR certification is valid for 2 years. To maintain your status as a certified First Aider, you must complete a First Aid Refresher Course before the expiration date.
